South Korean actor O Yeong-su, known for his role in the acclaimed OTT (Netflix) series ‘Squid Game’, has been convicted of sexual misconduct by a local court.

The charges stem from an incident in 2017, in which the 79-year-old man allegedly assaulted a woman.

Despite winning the Golden Globe in 2022 for his performance in the series, he now faces an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. Additionally, she is mandated to undergo 40 hours of sexual violence education.

The court considered the victim’s testimony credible, highlighting its coherence and authenticity.

The incidents occurred during O Yeong-su’s stay in a rural area for a theater performance.

‘Squid Game’, known for its dark portrayal of social issues, gained immense popularity on Netflix, showcasing South Korea’s growing influence in global entertainment.

Many members of South Korea’s film industry, including actor Cho Jae-hyun and late filmmaker Kim Ki-Duk, have faced accusations of sexual assault.
