Rapper Post Malone kicked off the Super Bowl on Sunday with a heartbreaking performance of “America the Beautiful” during the big game’s pre-show.
Malone, born Austin Richard Post, delivered a dazzling performance of the iconic song in front of the Kansas City Chiefs and San Fransisco 49ers, as well as hundreds of fans and even more watching from the comfort of their living rooms.
Malone, 28, revealed that he was chosen to sing on the pregame show last month.
“América La Bella LIVE on the @SuperBowl LVIII Pregame”, the singer of “Sunflower” posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Malone was joined by country music icon Reba McIntyre and R&B singer Andra Day, who performed the national anthem and “Lift Every Voice and Sing” before the game’s 6:30 p.m. kickoff.
The Grammy winner is no stranger to the chaos that is Super Bowl Sunday.
In addition to performing at the beginning of the evening, the singer also appeared in a commercial with NFL legend Peyton Manning… and a T-rex for the Bud Light beer company.
The commercial, which came out on tuesday features the 47-year-old former Indianapolis Colts quarterback and a group of friends who wake up the Bud Light genie and start making ridiculous wishes.
“My thing is desires,” says the man dressed in a tracksuit.
After waving a series of requests ranging from “80s hair” to “a sweet” trip, a Denver Bronco-clad fan says, “I wish Peyton Manning was my best friend,” prompting the appearance of the member of the Hall of Fame.
Another friend manages to make the rapper a reality after asking the genie, “I want Post Malone.”
The desires begin to get out of control and Manning himself springs into action demanding a house party where Malone takes center stage.
Everything seems to balance out until a huge T-Rex runs into the party.
“Who asked for a T-Rex?” one person asks.
“Guilty,” the “Go Flex” singer responded.
Following the commercial’s release, Malone released a statement about how excited he was to be in his third commercial for the beer company.
“I’m here for the hat trick and I’m happy to be back with Bud Light for my third Super Bowl commercial,” said Malone, who starred in the company’s 2021 and 2020 commercials.
The tone of the commercial is also noticeably different as the company struggles to recover after its failed marketing attempt with trans-TikToker Dylan Mulvaney caused sales to plummet.
