The mighty Puneri Paltan defeated a young and resilient Haryana Steelers to lift their first Pro Kabaddi League trophy, adding their name to the annals of history. In what was a thrilling final that could have gone either way, a guided performance from Puneri Paltan took them to the trophy with a 28-25 win over the Steelers at the GMC Balayogi Sports Complex at Gachibowli in Hyderabad on March 1.
Puneri Paltan’s defense gave their team an early lead after they got Haryana Steelers raiders Shivam Patare and Vinay. However, Mohit Goyat was tackled as the Steelers got on the scoreboard in the final. This boosted his confidence as Rahul Sethpal led the charge with his defense to keep the clash interesting.
The last match of PKL 10 was a very close encounter in the first half as Haryana Steelers had a response to all the forays of Puneri Paltan. However, a moment of magic from Pankaj Mohite saw him complete a Super Raid worth four points and the Paltan contingent took a decisive lead. Ashish’s successful raid in the final seconds for the Steelers meant the score was 10-13 in Paltan’s favor heading into the final 20 minutes of Season 10.
The only All-Out of the end came with a raid by Mohit Goyat, which gave Puneri Paltan a substantial lead at the start of the second half. This did not dampen the spirit of the young Haryana Steelers as their raiders sprung into action and grabbed as many bonus points as they could to get closer to Puneri Paltan.
Pankaj Mohite was the game-changer for Puneri Paltan in the Grand Final as Haryana Steelers’ resistance was met brilliantly to keep fans on the edge of their seats. Siddharth Desai overcame Puneri Paltan captain Aslam Inamdar and star all-rounder Mohammadreza Chiyaneh in the end to give his team hope but Paltan lived up to his form to seal his first PKL trophy and prove his credentials of being the best team of the season. 10.
