Karan Johar spoke about the nepotism debate during a chat with Rajkummar Rao and said that some use it to get attention.

Rajkummar Rao is excited about his new film, Mr. and Mrs. Mahi, produced by Karan Johar. In a recent chat with Karan and his co-star Janhvi Kapoor, Rajkummar spoke about losing roles to star kids. Karan commented on the debate between insiders and outsiders, saying that some people use it to get attention and doubts that missing parties will lead to losing film roles, as reported by HT.

Karan, while talking about the nepotism debate, said, “Sometimes they use it as a toll to make headlines. Immensely successful people say, ‘Oh, I felt victimized as an outsider and I lost an opportunity to a star kid.’ Someone says, “I didn’t go to a party, so I didn’t get a role.” “I don’t know at which party film transactions have taken place.”

Replying to Karan, Rajkummar said that when he first came to Mumbai, he was also told to attend parties to network. He said: “Making contacts is not a problem, but going to a party and saying, ‘Hi, I’m here to network.’ But that being said, he was supposed to make a movie, but suddenly he wasn’t in that movie overnight. Someone well known and who turned out to be a star kid got that role. In my opinion I think it was not fair. Just because you can control things, meet people, you can make some calls, it’s unfair. That movie ultimately never got made. That guy was an insider but he could have also been a successful outsider and he could do the same with you.”

In an earlier interview with Ranveer Allalhabadia, Rajkummar had talked about losing a film to a stranger before Karan brought up the topic in their recent interaction. When asked if nepotism influenced his replacement in a film, he admitted it but said he prefers to move on. He also mentioned that it seemed like karma that the movie never got made.

Rajkummar Rao is enjoying the success of his recently released film Srikanth. The film was released on May 10 and is triumphing at the box office. Actor Ranveer Singh also took to his social media account and praised the actor. Earlier, Akshay Kumar also praised the film and said that Rajkummar should start taking acting classes. Rajkummar plays the role of visually impaired industrialist Srikanth Bolla in the film.
