Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews is being hailed as a hero after offering help to a woman who experienced a medical emergency during a flight from Baltimore to Phoenix.
The situation was “really scary,” according to Andrew Springs, another passenger on the plane who He recounted the incident in X.
“The doctor and nurse who treated her could not find a strong pulse, her blood pressure was extremely low, and she needed oxygen to breathe,” Springs wrote.
Springs said Andrews, 28, asked medical professionals if the problem could be the woman’s blood sugar level and offered them a diabetic test kit he had. The three-time Pro Bowler was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 9 and monitors his blood sugar levels regularly.
Andrews then instructed the doctor and nurse on how to use the test kit. The woman’s heart rate later stabilized and paramedics arrived at the scene as soon as the plane landed.

The crows issued a statement from Andrews crediting Southwest flight crews and medical professionals for their response to the emergency.
“Besides the quick flight attendants, the real heroes are the nurse and doctor who were also on the plane. Fortunately, they were able to provide the woman with the quick assistance she needed.
