Regina King and Jimmy Kimmel on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’

Regina King and Jimmy Kimmel had a bittersweet moment Thursday night during their first interview together since their son’s death more than two years ago.
The Oscar-winning actress appeared in Jimmy Kimmel live! and was greeted by the host: “It’s very good to see you. How are you right now?”
King responded with a smile: “I’m fine right now.”
“Well, I’m glad to hear that,” Kimmel said while fighting back tears. “I know you’ve been through a lot in the last year.”
He shirley The actress proceeded to walk over and take the host’s hand with a smile and added, “Yeah, good to see you, Jimmy.”
King’s only son, Ian Alexander Jr., committed suicide in January 2022 at age 26. He shared Ian with her ex-husband, record producer Ian Alexander Sr.
Earlier this month, the If Beale Street could talk The actress spoke about her son’s death in an interview with Robin Roberts for Good morning americasharing the “journey” she has experienced while mourning Ian.
“I’m a different person now than I was on January 19 (before Ian died),” King said at the time. “Grief is a journey. I understand that pain is a love that has nowhere to go. I know it is important for me to honor Ian in the totality of who he is, to talk about him in the present, because he is always with me and with the joy and happiness that he gave us all.”
And she added: “What I like most about me is being Ian’s mother. And I can’t say that with a smile, with tears, with all the emotion that entails. “I can’t do that if I didn’t respect the journey.”
