Malayalam film Premalu, directed by Girish AD, has become the talk of the town. The romantic comedy stars Naslen K. Gafoor and Mamitha Baiju in pivotal roles. Let’s see what the movie is like.

History:

Sachin (Naslen K. Gafoor), an engineering graduate and a shy young man, loves a girl from his college but cannot express his feelings for her. After graduating, he plans to go to the United Kingdom, but his VISA application is rejected. Sachin doesn’t want to stay in his hometown and so he asks his friend Amal Davis (Sangeeth Prathap) for help. Amal Davis, who plans to continue as a GATE coach in Hyderabad, takes Sachin with him. At a marriage, Sachin sees Reenu (Mamitha Baiju) and falls in love with her instantly. The rest of the film shows the journey of the main characters.

Plus Points:

It is very difficult to handle films like Premalu, which have a simple story, but Girish AD does the job with flying colors. Premalu conveys a happy, joyful and comforting atmosphere throughout its runtime. Girish AD strikes a chord by coming up with situational and wholesome humour. There are numerous sequences in the film that will make us laugh out loud. The best part is that the love story is not overshadowed by the fun moments. The director perfectly combines the romantic and humorous parts, which makes Premalu a very pleasant film to watch.

The lead couple Naslen Gafoor and Mamitha Baiju are very endearing in their roles. Naslen looks like the boy next door and is very natural in his portrayal of Sachin. There is innocence, wit and charm in Sachin’s character, and the young actor did an incredible job of bringing those qualities to the screen. Mamitha Baiju is as captivating as Reenu. Her role is well crafted and the actress’ lively performance makes one fall in love with her character.

Reenu has a set of desired qualities that she wishes to see in her life partner, but slowly falls in love with Sachin, who is the complete opposite. This part has been handled sensibly with careful drama and touching moments. Sangeeth Prathap played Amal Davis, and he is that friend that we will all have in our lives. This makes his character more relatable.

Aadhi, played by Shyam Mohan, also loves the female lead, which puts him and Sachin at odds. They both try to woo and impress the heroine, and their scenes will tickle funny bones. The climactic episode is hilarious again.

Apart from these actors, the city of Hyderabad plays a vital role in this charming romantic comedy. The setting of a Malayalam film in Hyderabad adds freshness to the narrative. The film explores the beautiful city to a great extent, making even Telugu people easily connect with it.

Bad points:

There aren’t many complaints about Premalu. The first few minutes showing the protagonist’s parents and hometown could have been handled better. During these parts, the movie is a little slow.

If anyone is expecting a great story, they might be a little disappointed as Premalu is all about providing a fun experience with a familiar plot. However, the first half could have been more intense.

Technical aspects:

Vishnu Vijay’s music and Ajmal Sambu’s cinematography will enrich the pleasant feeling that Premalu conveys. The production values are too good and kudos to the makers for depicting Hyderabad in an amazing way and making it an integral part of the story.

Director Girish AD is assisted in writing by Kiran Josey, and the duo did a very good job integrating parts of fun and love. Most of the humor is situational and works quite well. Girish AD’s direction is top class and especially the second half is handled exceptionally without any dull moments. Premalu is one of the most enjoyable romantic comedies of recent times.

Verdict:

Overall, Premalu is an impressive romantic comedy entertainer with many funny moments. Naslen K. Gafoor, Mamitha Baiju, Sangeeth Prathap and Shyam Mohan are adorable as him. Premalu’s strong points are its humorous sequences, relatable moments, simple characters and a cute love story. Not just the Malayali audience, there are high chances for the Telugu audience to connect with Premalu as he explores the bustling city of Hyderabad in a great way. If you ignore the short plot and some slow parts, this movie is a lot of fun. Recommended.
