After the laughter, the whoops, the whoops, the whistles and the applause at tonight’s world premiere of road house At SXSW on Friday, Amazon MGM Studios might want to think again before putting this Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor McGregor rock ’em sock ’em beefcakes boxer movie on Prime Video. It doesn’t take a nudge in the head to realize the fact that road house clearly needs to make a destination for cinemas.

The packed Paramount Theater here in Austin, TX devoured this Doug Liman-directed film like a dozen beef ribs from Terry Black’s Barbeque. In no way was this unexpected last-minute trip for Liman a waste of time for the filmmaker.

While the streamer has stepped up and committed to the theatrical, and is largely cautious about making the right decision about what happens on the service or the big screen, this non-stop action movie in paradise, filmed in Imax and more. With Dolby 7.1 sound, it’s certainly worth leaving the couch. Spoiler alert, there’s an action scene in the movie that’s totally suitable for big-screen love, in which Gyllenhaal’s bar bouncer is hit by a truck while crossing a bridge.

At a time when many are exclaiming that Hollywood doesn’t make enough movies for the middle of the country, tonight was irrefutable proof that there is an audience for Camino House. Typically, SXSW lately has started with one genre (We, a quiet place) or a fantasy movie (Dungeons and Dragons; Everything everywhere and at the same time) for film directors here in the capital of Texas.

But this UFC-themed movie is clearly aimed at big guys of all ages. Amazon MGM distribution moves here with road house, which is set to arrive on Prime Video on March 21, is mind-blowing after tonight’s raucous premiere, given that the studio did box office wonders in the upper states over Christmas with George Clooney’s period drama. The boat boys, which minted 52.5 million dollars. That film grossed more than several other adult titles during the holidays, including the star-studded. ferrari ($18.6 million) and the Zac Efron-Jeremy Allen White photo iron claw ($35 million). Given the fun, fun, fun-in-the-sun sensibility of this action movie set in Key West, Florida, there should be room in the summer calendar for House of the Way. It’s reminiscent of the deep-fried country movies Hollywood used to make in the late ’70s, i.e. Clint Eastwood’s Tent. In every way but loose ($85.1 million) and Smokey and the bandit ($126.7 million) but with significantly more muscle and blood.

Afterwards, Dax Shepard moderated the post-screening Q&A.
