Jasprit Bumrah took a nine-wicket haul (9 for 91), the best by an Indian fast bowler against England in the last 40 years, as India thrashed Ben Stokes and his men by 106 runs in the second Test on Monday and equaled the 1-1 five-match series in Visakhapatnam. Chasing an improbable 399 for victory, England fell behind by 292 runs in the second session of Day 4, despite an attacking start and Zak Crawley’s well-planned 73. Following the victory, former Indian cricketers Ravi Shastri and Sachin Tendulkar praised the Indian team for their resounding victory as the hosts subdued the Bazball threat.
England came out with their “Bazball” style of cricket, with Crawley at the helm. But India continued to cut wickets at regular intervals. After Axar Patel removed ‘nighthawk’ Rehan Ahmed, Ravichandran Ashwin struck twice to dismiss Ollie Pope and Joe Root, before it became an all-Bumrah show. The spearhead, who took a six-wicket haul in the first innings, dismissed Jonny Bairstow on the stroke of lunch, capping an opening session that included five dismissals for India. Bumrah later returned to dismiss Ben Foakes and Tom Hartley, to secure a series-leveling victory at the Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium.

Rohit credits Bumrah for Vizag win
India captain Rohit praised Bumrah, who posted the third-best match figures of his career and the best at home, and felt that the fast bowler has a long way to go in international cricket.
“He is a champion player for us. When you win a game like that, you also have to look at the overall performance. We were good with the bat. You know winning a Test in these conditions is not easy. We loved our bowlers.” We stepped forward and they did it. He seems like a good player, he understands his game very well. He has a long way to go, he has a lot to offer our team. I hope he stays humble,” he said.
