PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Florida — Former University of Texas star Scottie Scheffler shot an 8-under 64 in the final round Sunday to claim a one-stroke victory in The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass. The victory marked the 100th official PGA TOUR victory for the University of Texas men’s golf program, achieved by 17 different people in the 98-year history of the TOUR.

This marked the second consecutive week Scheffler has won on the PGA TOUR, as he captured the Arnold Palmer Invitational last week at Bay Hill in Orlando. It marked his second victory on the PGA TOUR during the 2024 calendar year and the eighth overall of his career. All eight of his victories came during the last 26 months. In seven starts this season, Scheffler has recorded six top-10 performances and has finished no worse than tied for 17th.

Scheffler, the number one player in the world, became the first consecutive winner in the 50-year history of the Players Championship. Scheffler posted a 72-hole score of 20-under 268 (67-69-68-64) to defeat a trio of 19-under individuals that included Brian Harmon, Xander Schauffele and Wyndham Clark.

Scheffler began the day at 12 under par, five shots behind 54-hole leader Schauffele and tied for sixth. Scheffler holed out for eagle on the par-four No. 4 and then added birdies on Nos. 5, 8, 9, 11 and 12 to catch Schauffele. He added a final birdie at the 16th to move up to 20 under par.
