Barcelona captain Sergi Roberto praised Pau Cubarsi after another sensational performance from the youngster against Napoli.
The Catalans qualified for the quarterfinals of the competition with a 3-1 victory over the Serie A champions in a match in which Cubarsi again took home the MVP award.
Roberto, who scored Barcelona’s third goal, was quick to praise the teenager after a special night for the Catalans.
“Pau Cubarsí is incredible. He truly was the best player on the field. At that age he never stops surprising us all,” he said.
“Reaching the quarterfinals with one of our young people playing like that. I hope he plays for Barcelona all his life. Humble, talented and hard-working: that is the La Masia way of being.”
Roberto also talked about how special the night was for the team after reaching the quarterfinals for the first time in four years.
“That was an incredible night. It’s been four years since we’ve been where this club deserves to be (the quarterfinals). The fans deserve to be there too and they were very important tonight,” he added.
“We all knew that it was key to start the game well. And we did it. They got into the game at 2-1 and given that we had a really good first half of the game in Naples but didn’t make it, I’m glad I could be a part of making sure we didn’t let that happen here. .”
“Everything fell into place perfectly in that play that led to our third goal. Gündoğan passed the ball to me and out of the corner of my eye I saw Robert (Lewandowski) alone at the penalty spot!”
Barcelona will now eagerly await the quarter-final draw. They will find out their next opponents on Friday.
