Shah Rukh Khan explains why he rejected Slumdog Millionaire.

Shah Rukh Khan confirmed that he was offered Slumdog Millionaire when it featured Kaun Banega Crorepati. The actor revealed the reason for the film’s rejection.

Shah Rukh Khan confirmed that he has been offered the role of a presenter in the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire. The actor, at the 2024 World Government Summit in Dubai, spoke about working in Hollywood when he confirmed that Danny Boyle offered him the role. But he rejected the role and finally landed in Anil Kapoor’s kitty. Coincidentally, SRK was hosting Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, aka Kaun Banega Crorepati, in India when Danny Boyle offered him the role.

Speaking at the event, Shah Rukh said: “Yes, Slumdog was there, now that you mention it. And he spent a lot of time with Mr. Boyle. He’s so sweet. But I was doing Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (Kaun Banega Crorepati) on television, successfully at that time. And I felt that in the story that was told, the guy he presented was very bad, in the story that was told.”

SRK said he confirmed that the producers of Kaun Banega Crorepati recommended his name for the film. But he was not interested in continuing with the role because the host of the movie seemed like a dishonest person. “He was cheating and being dishonest as a presenter (in the film). Then I discovered that it is very strange to be a presenter (on KBC) and cheat in the movie. So I explained to Mr. Boyle that I wouldn’t like to do it, please, and that there are much better actors than me. And I think Anil Kapoor sir did it and was fantastic as the host,” he added.

Talking about working in Hollywood, Shah Rukh said that while there have been talks, no concrete offer has come to his table. “I have said it honestly, but no one believes it. So I’m going to tell you very, very honestly. No one has ever offered me any job. Crossing of substance. I may have had conversations with people I know, a lot of lovely people from the West, from the English film industry and from the American film industry. But no one has offered me any good job,” said Shah Rukh, one of only two Indians invited to the 2024 World Government Summit.
