Mohammed Shami, who has been out of competitive cricket since the World Cup in November, underwent surgery in London on Monday. The operation targeted his Achilles tendon, a part that has bothered him since the World Cup. Shami mentioned that the recovery process will take some time and expressed hope to resume his cricket journey soon. He shared this update via a social media post along with a photo of himself.

“Can’t wait to get back on my feet,” Shami wrote in a social media post and posted a photo of himself.

Shami’s most recent competitive appearance was in the World Cup final held in Ahmedabad on November 19. Since then, he has been absent from the entire tour of South Africa, the home T20I series against Afghanistan and the ongoing five-Test series against England.

It can now be confirmed that he will not be available for the entire Indian Premier League (IPL). Furthermore, his participation in the Twenty20 World Cup in June also remains uncertain. Before undergoing the surgery, Shami sought expert opinion in London after the management of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru recommended the procedure.

Meanwhile, the Indian team, fresh from their victory over England in Ranchi on Monday, has been granted a four-day break. They will disperse from Ranchi on Tuesday and reconvene in Dharamsala, venue of the fifth and final Test, on March 3. The Test match is scheduled to begin on March 7. India has taken an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five Tests. series.
