Tamil superstar Rajinikanth’s much-awaited action drama Lal Salaam finally hit the silver screens across the world in all languages this morning. Rajini’s elder daughter Aishwarya Rajinikanth has directed this film with cricket as its backdrop and also features young heroes Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth in the lead roles.
Even though Rajini’s previous film Jailer was the third highest-grossing Telugu dubbed film of all time with a share of over 47 crores, the buzz around Lal Salaam among Telugu fans and circles Rajini’s commercials were quite normal. However, to everyone’s surprise and disappointment, the first shows on the first day of Lal Salaam were canceled due to low occupancy at various centers in the Telugu states. Fans who booked their tickets online have already received refunds on ticketing platforms, while the fate of the film’s upcoming screenings remains up in the air.
In Lal Salaam, Rajini will be seen in an extended cameo where he plays a Mumbai underworld kingpin named Moideen Bhai. The film’s soundtrack is composed by AR Rahman, while leading Tamil production house Lyca Productions has bankrolled the large-scale project.
