What Siddharth Anand said

Siddharth Anand and Hrithik Roshan previously collaborated on the films Bang Bang (2014) and War (2019).

In the interview with Galatta Plus, Siddharth Anand shared why he thinks Fighter didn’t do the opening day numbers as expected. He said: “Fighter is a big leap. For filmmakers making it in the country and the type of genre it is. It’s a space that is unexplored and absolutely new. It doesn’t have a reference point for the audience, that means that what you are seeing is a bit… accha… such big stars, a commercial director, accha ye plans kya kar rahi he (what are these planes doing)? I say: is this my film? “You know this . If you realize, there is a huge percentage of our country… I would say 90% have not flown on airplanes! He hasn’t been to an airport! “So how do you expect them to know what’s going on in the air?”

Siddharth further added, “This is my dissection. They felt this was a bit strange. How many percentages of Indians… I mean, this is a variation, for an academic discussion, how many of them have passports? How many traveled?” On a plane? You are talking about the action of the plane. Have you not understood what is the euphoria that you are supposed to feel in the action? There is a certain initial disconnection like ‘Mujhe nahi pata ye kya hai (I don’t know what is happening ) ! But once you enter the auditorium, you realize that it is a very basic film. It is an emotional kahaani, a very desi story. It appeals to the lowest common denominator as a story. The genre is very new and I think it was the hesitation initial.”

Fighter is said to be a tribute to the sacrifice and patriotism of the Indian armed forces. The film revolves around a new elite unit, Air Dragons, commissioned by the Air Headquarters in response to militant activities in the Srinagar Valley.
