Actor Sikander Kher, who has been working in the Hindi film industry for the last 16 years, and recently appeared in the third season of the Disney Plus Hotstar Aarya Series, realizes that she is “lucky” to have been born to famous parents, Anupam Kher and Kirron Kher. But he also admits that he took his privilege for granted at one point in his life and did not look for work despite being unemployed. According to him, “maybe” he got too “comfortable.”

In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Sikander shared that before the advent of OTT platforms, he was jobless for a couple of years, but he didn’t make any effort to go out and ask for work. “I’ve been sitting at home for a couple of years. I didn’t actively go out or meet people, perhaps out of convenience. I didn’t have to pay rent or fight for food. I lived in Mumbai and in a nice little bubble,” the actor reflected.

Although he watches his father Anupam Kher and his contemporaries Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff look for work, until now, the idea of asking people for jobs “never clicked”.

“I have seen my father, Anil Kapoor sir, Jackie Shroff sir do it so far. Everywhere they go, they talk about work, ‘Kuch hai toh batana, kab kar raha hun tumhaare saath agli main film (If you find something suitable for me, tell me. When will I make my next film with you?)’ They haven’t stopped until now. They have come from that place…” Sikander said as he reasoned, “I didn’t go because I thought, ‘It’s beneath me’, but it was for comfort.”

However, his passion for acting eventually made him send messages to people. “Then something hit me and I went crazy. I started sending messages to people I knew and didn’t know, at 10:30 in the morning. “I didn’t text at 10 because I thought it would be early and I didn’t text at 11 because they might think I’m up late.”

Sikander Kher made his acting debut with Sanjay Gupta’s 2008 film Woodstock Villa. He went on to star in films like Players, Aurangzeb, Romeo Akbar Walter, The Zoya Factor, among others. Of all the actors he has worked with, Jackie Shroff is his inspiration.
