By entering hospice, Cat Janice is giving her 7-year-old son a special way to remember her.
The 31-year-old Washington, D.C., singer was diagnosed with sarcoma, a rare malignant tumor, in 2021, and has endured a daunting battle ever since. On January 15, she announced that her cancer had progressed, making it impossible for her to speak, and that she was now in hospice care.
Janice released”Dance out of my head“, a disco-pop song with nuances of love, on streaming platforms on his birthday, January 19. Days later, he found out that the song was listed on iTunes at number 7 worldwide, reached the number 1 in Romania, Ireland and the Czech Republic and peaked at number 12 in the US.
“I’m in complete shock,” Janice wrote on instagram. “I woke up because my medical bomb was going off and I checked my phone to witness this absolute miracle of God saving my life for a few days to show me the power of him and his incredible command of peace and trust in my life.”
Profits from song streams will go towards his son Loren’s future. The track has over half a million streams on Spotify.
“I want my last song to bring joy and fun! It’s everything I’ve ever wanted during my battle with cancer,” he wrote in a tiktok video January 15.

Cat Janice has documented a grueling battle with cancer
Following her 2021 diagnosis, Janice continued creating music and social media content while undergoing surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. On July 22, 2022, she was declared cancer-free and lived almost a year without the disease.
But last June, the “white shoes” singer shared the tragic news that her cancer had returned to her lungs.
“I’m going to be very strong about it and let you know what’s going on,” he said in a tiktok video published on June 5. “And thank you guys so much for loving me. Thank you for loving me during this battle.”
Janice documented her treatment and promoted her music throughout the entire process and received support from her fans. She was also inspired by her circumstances, including her single “wishing to be you” where he narrates the experience of losing his hair “in the face of modern medicine.”
Earlier this month, she told her followers that “tumors basically tripled overnight.”
‘Dancing on the brink of disaster’
Through a series of health challenges, Janice has refused to let cancer hinder her spirit and ambitions.
Before her cancer, the singer won the Washington Area Music Award in the category of Best Rock Artist in Washington, DC, in 2019. Last year she received the Robert Allen Award from the ASCAP Foundation.
With “Dance You Outta My Head,” Janice wanted to make a song with fun lyrics that people could jump to. She said People Magazine that “my art is all I have to leave behind.”
“Dancing on the brink of disaster. Makes my heart beat faster and the feeling, the feeling ain’t right, so I’m gonna dance you out of my head,” Janice sings in the song.
In her Instagram post last week, Janice made sure to tell her followers that streams of her songs will go directly to Loren.
“I don’t know if I’ll make it to 4 days for the song release, but I can’t appreciate it enough,” he wrote.
One of her followers responded by telling her: “Your strength and foresight in supporting your son while enduring this illness is a huge burst of love and light that you have blessed him with.
“This is what maternal love and strength looks like,” they continued. “We’ll make sure we do our part.”
