Son Heung-min is scheduled to return to Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday following South Korea’s elimination from the Asian Cup.

Son, 31, has missed Spurs’ last five games in all competitions, having started all 20 of the club’s Premier League games this season.

He is their top scorer with 12 goals and has added five assists.

Son’s return to his club puts him in line to play for Ange Postecoglou’s side against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

South Korea had hoped to win its first Asian Cup since 1960, but Jordan finally ended a faltering campaign under Jurgen Klinsmann in the semi-final on Tuesday.

“It’s very disappointing. “I am devastated by this result,” Son said after the match.

“(The Asian Cup) was very, very difficult. I have no excuses. I gave it my all to be honest. It’s really tough competition. The level of Asian football is always rising. It was always going to be difficult. Today was a difficult challenge. “Now I have to go back to my club and be ready for the rest of the season.”

Tottenham won two of five games without their club captain but were knocked out of the FA Cup at the hands of Manchester City last month.

They currently sit fifth in the Premier League table, two points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa.

Midfielder Yves Bissouma, who was absent from the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) with Mali, returned to the club on Wednesday and is being assessed, as is customary for returning players.
