SP Charan

It is well known that legendary playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam’s son SP Charan recently sent a legal notice to the Keedaa Cola team. Charan accused the makers of Keedaa Cola of illegally recreating the voice of his late father using Artificial Intelligence and Deepfake technology without the permission of his family.

Charan issued the legal notice following a video interview in which Keedaa Cola music composer Vivek Sagar admitted to recreating SPB’s voice using artificial intelligence and Deepfake technology. Charan said he was disheartened and deeply upset with the Keedaa Cola team’s lethargic response to his legal notice seeking an apology, damages and a share of royalties, along with a face-to-face meeting to reach to an amicable solution.

“The response not only dismissed the already admitted fact of using late SP Balasubrahmanyam’s voice through artificial intelligence technology, but also misleadingly suggested a media trial instead of a legal approach. We refrain from choosing devious methods to handle this matter and have no desire to rush this matter through a media trial and only propose to take this matter legally,” Charan said.

Released on November 3, 2023, Keedaa Cola, featured legendary comedian Brahmanandam and young actors Chaitanya Rao and Rag Mayur in the lead roles. Directed by Tharun Bhascker, the film was produced by VG Sainma and presented by actor Rana Daggubati.
