Kiran Rao, director and ex-wife of Aamir Khan, has expressed interest in watching Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s latest film Animal.
In a recent interview, Rao acknowledged the success of Animal and the positive reception from audiences. The conversation arose from her discussion of her own company as director, Laapataa Ladies.
Reflecting on the praise received by Laapataa Ladies, Rao expressed gratitude for the love it has received and noted that even critics have appreciated it. He noted that while today’s audiences often shower love on action-packed, VFX-heavy films like Animal, critical praise may not always align with popular taste.
Rao confessed his desire to see Animal, citing its enormous box office success as a testament to its appeal. He mentioned Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s renowned craftsmanship and praised Ranbir Kapoor’s acting skills, expressing anticipation for an intriguing viewing experience.
This interest in Animal follows Rao’s advocacy for gender sensitivity in films during a 2023 session, where he highlighted stereotypical portrayals of women and LGBTQ+ characters on screen, referencing films such as Kabir Singh.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga responded to Rao’s earlier comments in an interview, reigniting discussions about Aamir Khan’s past films like Dil and its controversial elements.
In a later conversation, Kiran Rao clarified that her comments on gender sensitivity were not specifically directed at Sandeep’s work. She stressed that she had not seen Vanga’s films and distanced herself from being held responsible for her ex-husband’s film choices.
