Billy Dee Williamsbest known for his role as Lando Calrissian in it ‘Star Wars’ franchise, is addressing rumors that he is part of the LGBTQIA+ community.
The 86-year-old actor spent almost 80 years on both screen and stage, but he also spent most of his life in the art industry, even starting life as a painter.
Now, for the first time, ‘Star Wars’ actor is breaking down her walls completely as she opens up about her decades-long career in her memoir, ‘What Have We Here?’
Did Billy Dee Williams Attend Secret Gay Parties?
While promoting her new memoir, Williams addressed those rumors that she was part of the LGBTQIA+ community, which many said could have ruined her career.
The actor says he always felt comfortable hanging out with members of the LGBTQIA+ community and admitted to attending secret gay parties in the basement of the Metropolitan Opera.
“Everything seemed very normal to me,” he shared about that moment in his life. “I’ve been involved in this my whole life, so I never thought much about it.”
When promoting his book, he spoke about those rumors and stated that they never bothered him. “I’ve been called the ‘Closet Queen,'” she said. Page sixand added: “But I don’t pay much attention to any of that.”
This comes a few years after Williams, who was the first black character in the ‘Star Wars’ universe, referred to himself as a “colorful” person.
“I consider myself a relatively colorful character who doesn’t take himself too seriously,” he said. Don at the time, adding, “and you see, I say ‘himself’ and ‘herself,’ because I also see myself as both feminine and masculine.”
The LGBTQ advocacy group Human Rights Campaign took to social media to congratulate Williams for “coming out and living her truth as a genderfluid.”
However, the ‘Star Wars’ actor later clarified his comments, stating that he was actually referring to “men getting in touch with their softer side of themselves.”
“There is a phrase that was coined by Carl G. Jung, who was a psychiatrist, a contemporary of Sigmund Freud, and they were divided because they had different ideas about… what is it called? Awareness. Unconscious. It’s collective unconsciousness,” he said. Undefeated.

“But he coined a phrase which is ‘Anima animus.’ And anima means that it is the feminine counterpart of the masculine self, and animus is the masculine counterpart of the feminine,” Williams continued. “
Then he clarified: “So, that’s what I meant. She was talking about men getting in touch with the feminine side of her. She wasn’t talking about sex, she wasn’t talking about being gay or straight. People should read (Jung). I mean, it would be an interesting education for a lot of people.”
He then said “he identifies as a man” and that “he is not gay.”
