The spin-off of Suits in progress at NBC has found its lead actor.

Stephen Amell will star Suits: Los Angeles, a companion series to USA Network’s former legal drama-turned-streaming phenomenon. If turned into a series, the project would mark Amell’s return to the world of television, where she played the title character on The CW series. Arrow for eight seasons.

Universal Studio Group’s UCP began developing a Suits spinoff with creator Aaron Korsh in October, following the show’s huge streaming success after it was added to Netflix in June 2023 (the show also streams on Peacock). NBC ordered a pilot for Suits: Los Angeles on Feb. 1 and aims to begin production in Vancouver in late March, which could put the show in competition for a spot in the network’s 2024-25 lineup.

Amell will play the lead role of Ted Black, a former New York prosecutor who now runs a Los Angeles law firm specializing in criminal and entertainment law, alongside an old friend. According to the show’s tagline, “His company is at a crisis point and, to survive, he must accept a role that he despised for his entire career.”

Korsh wrote Suits: Los Angeles and executive producer with colleagues Suits students David Bartis, Doug Liman and Gene Klein. Victoria Mahoney will direct and produce the pilot.

Amell exits pro wrestling drama Heels on Starz, which lasted two seasons before premium cable canceled it (along with two other series) in a cost-cutting move last fall. The actor was criticized in the early days of the SAG-AFTRA strike for saying that he did not support the labor action, comments he soon clarified by saying that he fully supported the union and its management.

Amell will soon appear in Netflix sci-fi film Code 8: Part II, where he stars alongside his cousin Robbie. Stephen Amell is represented by UTA, Leverage Management and Sloane Offer.
