The first day of the second Test between India and England focused on one man: Yashasvi Jaiswal. The young left-handed opener remained unbeaten on 179* to ensure India reached 336/6 at stumps. While none of the other Indian batsmen, including Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill, could even touch 35, Jaiswal stood out with the classy innings from him. This is Yashasvi Jaiswal’s second century in Tests and with the way he has progressed, it looks like he could be heading for a big innings on the second day of Saturday’s match.

During the day’s play, news came that the mother-in-law of former Indian cricket team captain and batting great Sunil Gavaskar had died. According to reports and posts by senior journalists, Sunil Gavaskar left the comment and left for Kanpur after the news came.

Talking about the game of the day, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s bombing caused problems in England’s bowling setup on the first day of the second Test against England on Friday at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium.

At the end of Day 1, India managed to score 336/6 on the board with Jaiswal and Ravichandran Ashwin unbeaten with scores of 179* and 5* respectively.

Vizag continued to witness Jaiswal’s prowess with the bat, his maturity to stick with his side and keep the scoreboard ticking while forming small but effective partnerships.

Jaiswal’s composure allowed him to have a fine balance between attack and defence. His 179* saw him score 17 boundaries and hit five maximums, causing England to reconsider his plans.

India stumbled three times in the third session of the day with Rajat Patidar, Axar Patel and KS Bharat falling to the English duo of Rehan Ahmed and Shoaib Bashir.

Patidar (32) was caught off guard by Rehan’s long delivery which had an extra bounce and ended up hitting him on the glove and falling to the ground. Fortune was not on Patidar’s side in his attempt to prevent the ball from hitting the stumps, but he ended up kicking straight towards it.

Axar joined Jaiswal at the crease and both batsmen managed to put 52 runs on the board before Axar saw his cut shot go straight into Rehan’s hands in Bashir’s over.

KS Bharat (17) was also dismissed in a similar manner when he tried to cut but failed to get the timing right. Ashwin and Jaiswal ensured that India did not lose any more wickets before stumps were called.
