During her debut as host of “Saturday Night Live,” Sydney Sweeney revealed her initial plan to break into Hollywood and joked about romance rumors with co-star Glen Powell during her opening monologue.
“You may have seen me on ‘Anyone But You’ or ‘Euphoria,’” he said. You definitely didn’t see me on ‘Madame Web,’” she joked. “But I have a new movie coming out called ‘Immaculate.’ I play a nun, so it’s perfect casting. But tonight, I’m excited for everyone to know the real me. I feel like people only see me as the girl on TV who screams and cries and has sex. Sometimes it’s all three things at the same time.”
Describing his roots in Spokane, Washington, Sweeney demonstrated the presentation he used to show his parents how he would break into Hollywood, with a graphic that said “audition,” etc. The second graph was plan B if that didn’t work. , reading simply, “Tits.”
She also joked that her fiancé was in the room while the camera panned to Glen Powell in the audience…then admitted she was joking and that her real fiancé was in the green room.
Sweeney recently appeared opposite Dakota Johnson in the superhero film “Madame Web” and starred opposite Powell in the romantic comedy “Anyone But You,” which grossed $200 million worldwide. She is also known for her roles in “Euphoria” and “White Lotus,” earning Emmy nominations for both series.
Powell recently teased a possible reunion for him and Sweeney, saying Variety who have been reading scripts together. “When you find someone you really gel with, Sydney is very easy to work with and very fun. “We are definitely trying to find the next thing,” Powell said.
His new film “Immaculate” opens in theaters on March 22. The psychological horror film stars Sweeney as a religious woman who moves into a haunted Italian convent and miraculously and mysteriously becomes pregnant.
Kacey Musgraves appeared as the musical guest on Saturday, marking the artist’s third appearance on the show.
Next week, Josh Brolin will host “SNL” for the third time, with Ariana Grande as the musical guest in what will also be his third appearance on the show.
