Sydney Sweeney Talks Iconic Euphoria Vomiting Scene in Video Interview

During her appearance on the show “Hot Ones” uploaded on Thursday, Sydney Sweeney shared some intriguing details about filming one of her most memorable scenes on the hit HBO series “Euphoria.”

The actress opened up about the behind-the-scenes aspects of a particularly intense vomiting scene that left viewers shocked and impressed. Typically, Sweeney explained, vomiting scenes are simulated using a simple, if unappetizing, combination of materials.

“In a lot of movies, they just take a cup of whatever mashed up stuff they have from the craft equipment mixed with milk and water,” the actress famously told Sean Evans about “The hot ones.” “And it’s the most disgusting thing, and you just put it in your mouth, hold it, and then vomit it up.”

However, the “euphoria” scene required a more complex approach, Sweeney said. According to the actress, director Sam Levinson apparently wanted a more striking visual effect for the scene. To achieve this, the production team used a bomb to create a more dramatic and realistic vomiting sequence than the one Sweeney endured. “He just wanted vomit everywhere, so they had to get a bomb, and they had this tube that they just taped up and hid in my body, and then CGI’d it out through my neck. And then there was a bit of horse that I had to put in my mouth,” the actress explained.

Reflecting on the experience, Sweeney didn’t mince words about how unpleasant it was.

“And then during that scene, they fill my mouth with vomit, and then I open my mouth and it starts shooting out of my mouth,” he said. “And it was the most disgusting thing I’ve ever experienced.”
