Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo have become one of the biggest talking points of the 2024 Bahrain GP.

In a race with few headline moments, Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo caused some controversy in Bahrain. The two Racing Bulls clearly showed their frustration on the team radio, both during and after the race.

For most of the Grand Prix, it was the Japanese driver who enjoyed the advantage over his teammate.

Tsunoda spent most of the race fighting for points, battling with Alonso, Stroll and Zhou for track position.

Although RB failed to show the performance that many expected, a top 10 finish was still at stake.

Only later, in the second round of pit stops, did things start to get worse.

Tsunoda lost to Stroll and Zhou, who stopped early and executed the undercut.

The 23-year-old driver managed to close the gap, but the lack of compensation with his hard tires made overtaking difficult.

Racing in P13, the VCARB driver was accompanied by teammate Daniel Ricciardo in the closing laps.

Tense final laps for the Racing Bulls

Daniel Ricciardo benefited from the soft tires in the final stint, allowing him to close the gap on his teammate.

Both Racing Bulls were within Magnussen’s DRS in 12th, although the points were out of reach.

Despite this, the Italian team gave orders to the team for an exchange of drivers.

This request did not impress Yuki Tsunoda, who was five tenths behind the Haas in front.

A series of radio messages from both pilots’ teams followed:

Engineer: “Controller change.”

Tsunoda: “Are you kidding me now?”

Ricciardo: “Yes, I don’t need to say anything.”

Tsunoda: “Yes, thanks guys, I appreciate it…. He needs to speed up the man. “It’s not fast at all.”

Post-race frustrations

However, another communication was lost on the television broadcast after the checkered flag.

After crossing the line, the two RB teammates got very close.

Tsunoda stalled slightly as he passed Ricciardo on the cool-down lap, getting closer than the Australian was comfortable with.

Evidently, car number 22 was still not happy with how events unfolded.

There was no contact, but the two VCBAR 01 machines were closer than they should have been.

This prompted a response from the 34-year-old on his team radio:

“What the fuck… I’ll keep it.

“It’s a damn helmet.”

It seems safe to say that Laurent Mekies will have to do a delicate but thorough post-race report.

Despite closing its collaboration with Red Bull, the Faenza team has not managed to enter the top 5.

To make matters more difficult, there are early signs that tension is forming between your driving partner.
