Joey Graziadei assures his fans that he is healthy, happy and medically sound after concern spread among viewers and social media followers regarding his eye coloration.

The Bachelor The star took to Instagram on Thursday to explain the unique medical condition she has been dealing with since childhood and to ease any concerns about her health.

“I wanted to jump over here real quick and talk about something I see a lot of comments about, which is ‘Joey’s yellow eyes,'” Joey shared in his video. “So to give some context on that, I have to go back to when I was in high school.”

According the 28-year-old reality star, as a teenager, was “sick for about a week and a half,” so his mom decided to take him to see a doctor to make sure it wasn’t anything too serious. The doctors ran tests, took blood, and discovered something unusual.

“Blood tests showed my bilirubin count was very high,” Joey said. “That means there might be something wrong with my liver.”

Bilirubin is a natural yellowish-orange substance that is the byproduct of the breakdown of red blood cells in the body. A healthy liver will work to remove bilirubin from your body, so the presence of high levels of the substance may be an indication that your liver is not working efficiently.

“So we went and I had an ultrasound of my liver. I went to see other doctors and they found out that there wasn’t anything necessarily wrong, like hepatitis, but they diagnosed me with something called Gilbert’s syndrome,” Joey explained.

According to the Mayo ClinicGilbert syndrome “is a common, harmless liver condition in which the liver does not process bilirubin properly.” It is “an inherited genetic condition” and people who have it may not even know it “until it is discovered by accident, such as when a blood test shows elevated levels of bilirubin.” The condition does not require treatment.

“At the end of the day, they tell me I’m healthy,” Joey shared. “It’s something that affects the whites of my eyes, makes me have those levels of jaundice, so they look a little more yellow… It’s something I want to pay more attention to this year. I want to get my health back and make sure That I’m fine”.

Joey concluded his message by telling fans, “I appreciate everyone looking out for me and wondering if I’m okay.”

Joey is currently looking for love on season 28 of The Bachelor.

He spoke to ET before filming on the season began last year, and spoke about his excitement about being the new lead on the long-running show and the support he’s received from Bachelor Nation.

“I was lucky that Ben Higgins He sent me a DM, Arie (Luyendyk Jr.) I did too,” Joey said at the time. “A lot of guys just wanted to send me at least some support, saying they’d love to see me last season and wanted to make sure that if I needed anything, they’d be there to help.”

While Joey said that “it’s nice to know that people have reached out,” he admitted that he gave “the same answer every time.”

“I appreciate the love and support, but I’m really excited to do it my way,” Joey said of the message he sent to the former Bachelors. “I don’t think I really need to seek advice from anyone. I think I just have to look inward. I’m here for a reason and I’ll do my best to prove it.”

Joey said he was confident that the journey itself throughout the season would be unforgettable.

“What I’m looking forward to most is meeting so many people, because obviously, in the end, I want to find my person,” she said. “I think this is going to be really exciting and fun, meeting people from different walks of life who are… excited to give everything they have to find that person. That alone excites me.”
