Lola Beltrán grew up in a working class family in El Rosario de Sinaloa. She was motivated and inspired to sing for her church choir, which sparked her love for singing. Later, she became obsessed with ballads. Lola Beltrán and her mother moved to Mexico City in 1953 to pursue her career as a singer.

Career
The singer accepted a job as a secretary for a popular radio station and earned the opportunity to participate in an on-air singing contest. She won the contest and a new opportunity opened up. The show’s producers were so impressed with her that they helped her get a recording contract.

Later, Beltrán began covering popular songs on the air and even earned his radio show, however his dreams did not end there. The Mexican singer crafted stories of underdog characters seeking and obtaining redemption while working with composers. Her songs “Cucurrucucu Paloma” and “Cielito Lindo” were the most beloved as her melancholic voice and her sensitivity resonated with people all over Mexico. She managed to captivate audiences from all walks of life despite dedicating songs to the country’s working class.

Her performance at the prestigious El Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City marked the first by a ranchera singer. She also sang for presidents and leaders around the world. Beltrán recorded 100 albums and starred in 50 films throughout her career. She is believed to have inspired generations of Mexican singers to embrace folk music and sing about authentic experiences of it.
