Shah Rukh Khan on turning down Anil Kapoor's role in Slumdog Millionaire: 'The guy who was the host was mean'

Shah Rukh Khan recently revealed that he was offered a role in the Oscar-winning film. Slumdog Millionaire. The actor revealed his reasons for rejecting the role of Kaun Banega Crorepati Movie presenter. It is to be noted that Shah Rukh Khan hosted the same show for a TV channel during that time period. During the World Government Summit 2024 in Dubai, SRK said: “Yes, Slumdog (millionaire) It was there, now that you mention it. And I spend a lot of time with Mr. Boyle (Danny Boyle). He’s so sweet. but he was doing Kaun Banega Crorepati on television, with success at that time. And I felt that in the story that was told, the guy he presented was very bad, in the story that was told.”

Explaining why he said no to the role that Anil Kapoor eventually got, SRK added, “I was cheating and being dishonest as a host (in the film). Then I discovered that it is very strange that he is the host (in KBC) and I’m cheating on the movie. So I explained to Mr. Boyle (Danny Boyle) that I wouldn’t like to do it, please, and that there are much better actors than me. And I think Anil Kapoor sir did it and was fantastic as the host.”

At the same summit, King Khan also talked about how Hollywood had never offered him any substantial crossover projects. The megastar stated: “I’ve said it honestly, but no one believes me. No one has offered me any substantial crossover work. I may have had conversations with people. I know a lot of lovely people from the West, from the English film industry.” American film industry, but no one has offered me any work. I hear actors talk about wanting to cross over, but I still have to learn to give myself to the audience that loves me, instead of spreading myself too thin. So really “I’ve never been offered a movie in Hollywood or England.”
