The Brit Awards are known for their extravagant outfits and pops of colour, and while many stars opted to sport bright outfits, a considerable number opted for more somber black.

Oh, and there was also a giraffe.

Singer-songwriter Raye reflected on her nomination record, saying, “I already have tears in my eyes, I have waterproof eyeliner.”

He said all he had ever wanted was to be an “album artist.”

Dua Lipa, a six-time British winner and triple nominee, sizzled in a sculpted black leather bodycon dress by Donatella Versace.

He said he loves to “add a little danger to my performances” and that “it’s just about having fun and creating a show.”

She opened the show with her new song Training Season.

Becky Hill, nominated for best dance act, opted for a black bodysuit that skimmed her upper half while wrapping her legs in a flowy fabric. She said she hoped Raye would have the “historic and unprecedented night she deserves.”

The Last Dinner Party’s Abigail Morris, winner of the Brits Rising Star award and the BBC’s Sound of 2024 competition, let her dress do the talking.

She told the BBC it’s a line from one of her songs, explaining: “I thought it was appropriate for tonight.”

Years and Years singer Olly Alexander, who is entering this year’s Eurovision in the UK with his song Dizzy, looked elegant in a long silk jacket.

It wouldn’t be the British without at least one unusual costume, and comedian Rob Beckett did it by climbing inside an inflatable giraffe. Let’s hope he sits in the back so as not to block anyone’s view.

Charli XCX was as colorful as the Brits logo behind her, wearing a dress made from a mosaic of colors and materials with a resin bodice.

Ella Henderson stood out from the crowd in a huge black hat – she’s nominated for React, along with Switch Disco.

One of the show’s hosts, Maya Jama, channeled her inner mermaid in a flowing black corset dress.

Another presenter, Clara Amfo, was dressed in emerald green with fishnet stockings and platform shoes.

Singer Jess Glynne looked regal dressed in pink and crimson, with heavy eye makeup to match.

Singer Rebecca Ferguson, who performed in Liverpool at one of the Eurovision semi-finals last year, said she was excited to see multi-nominated artist Raye perform at the Brits.

He also spoke about raising awareness of a new independent body aimed at helping prevent and tackle harassment and bullying in the music industry – the Creative Industries Independent Standards Authority.

Traitors finalist Mollie Pearce wore a tight dress on the red carpet and told the BBC she was already over losing the show’s £95k prize to Harry Clarke. “I’m over it. I’m in the British!” she said.
