As predicted in Fatboy Slim’s “Weapon of Choice” music video, in which Christopher Walken danced a line of Dune (“Walk without rhythm, It won’t attract the worm”), the actor would be destined to join Frank Herbert’s science fiction universe in The acclaimed adaptation by Denis Villeneuve. In fact, Dune: Part Two brought Walken out of a four-year acting hiatus.

In an interview with vanity fairWalken explained why he took on the role of the formidable Emperor who launches The fall and rise of House Atreides in Dune. “Of course, he had seen the first Dune a number of times. I loved and admired (Villeneuve’s) films. Arrival, I thought, it was wonderful. And being with all these fantastic actors (Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin, Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh and Stellan Skarsgård) and going to Budapest, which is a beautiful city. And of course, that’s what I do for a living. It was only, I think, three weeks. So everything was attractive,” he told the magazine.

Walken, who somehow hadn’t yet gotten carried away with a sci-fi epic, also revealed that he was almost there. Star Wars but the moment was not right. “I think it was for Han Solo,” Walken shared. “Yes, I auditioned for it. And if I’m not mistaken, my audition partner was (I think it’s true) Jodie Foster. I think we did a screen test. I’m not sure we made a scene. Maybe we just sat in front of, in those days, those old video cameras… did audition for Star Wars, but so did 500 other actors. There were a lot of people doing that.” But since he was destined in “Weapon of Choice”, Walken was always destined to be the Emperor in Dune.

Dune: Part Two It’s already in theaters.
