The Sims Movie in the Loki Director’s Tube, Margot Robbie’s Company to Produce

EA’s long-running life simulation series The Sims is being adapted into a movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The project will be directed by Kate Herron, who previously directed the first season of Loki for Disney+ and four episodes of the first season of Sex Eduction for Netflix. Herron will also reportedly co-write the script.

Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap production company (which Robbie runs alongside Tom Ackerly, Josey McNamara and Sophia Kerr) is set to produce, along with Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Miri Yoon, as well as Electronic Arts itself.

There are no further details about the upcoming movie available at this time, so it is unknown how many Sims will drown after the ladder is removed after jumping into the pool.

Created by iconic game designer Will Wright (creator of 1989’s pioneering SimCity), The Sims was first released in early 2000. With over two decades of sequels and expansions under its belt (and over 200 million copies sold), The Sims is one of the best-selling video game series of all time.

This isn’t the first time a movie based on The Sims is in the works; In 2007, Fox was preparing for its own live-action adaptation of the series, but it fizzled in development limbo for over a decade before being officially canceled in 2019 in the wake of the Disney-Fox merger.
