There may be more than six feet between them, but the world’s tallest man and the world’s shortest woman found common ground when they met this week.

Sultan Kosen, who is 8ft 3 (251cm), surpassed fellow Guinness World Record holder Jyoti Amge, who is just over 2ft (62.8cm) tall, when they met in California on Monday.

Sitting cross-legged on the floor, their very different heights could not have been more evident.

One of Mr Kosen’s feet measures 14.3 inches (36.5 cm) and is more than half Ms Amge’s height.

The couple previously met in Cairo in 2018, where they visited the Giza Pyramids together.

Kosen, from Turkey, officially became the world’s tallest living man in 2009, when he was found to be more than 10cm taller than Bao Xishun, who held the record at the time.

He also holds the record for largest hands by a living person, each measuring 11.22 inches (28.5 cm) from the wrist to the tip of the middle finger.

Kosen, 41, grew normally until he was ten years old, but a tumor caused him to develop a disease called pituitary gigantism.

The record holder, who has 241,000 followers on Instagram, requires specially made clothing and sleeps in a three-metre-long bed.

Indian actress Amge, 30, is shorter than the average two-year-old and weighed 11 pounds (5 kg) when she was 18.

Its small size is due to a form of dwarfism called achondroplasia, which means it will never grow beyond a certain height.

When Amge was 15 years old, she received the record title of the smallest living teenager.

Three years later she became the shortest living woman in the world, a title she has held ever since.

Amge, who has 1.4 million followers on Instagram, achieved her dream of becoming the world’s shortest actress after appearing in the American television series American Horror Story.
