This is what’s really going on in Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj Beef

[ad_1]

Beef is a quintessential part of rap. So it wasn’t a surprise, but it was shocking in several ways, when Megan Thee Stallion took shots at several artists who had unfavorably had her name in their mouths.

Although the takes were subliminal (he didn’t mention any names in his latest track, “Hiss”), people have some good guesses as to who he was talking about in the song: Tory Lanez, Drake, DaBaby, Pardi and Nicki Minaj.

When the Houston rapper called into “The Breakfast Club” last Friday, she assured listeners that “a beaten dog is going to scream.” Of those who felt it, Minaj has been the loudest.

After “Hiss” came out, the veteran rapper went on a 72-hour tirade against Megan on social media. He even went so far as to mobilize his fan base, the Barbz, several of whom have been accused of misleading anyone with anything critical to say about Minaj. They also reportedly revealed the location of Megan’s mother Holly Thomas’ grave. On the latest episode of “I Know That’s Right,” hip-hop journalist and author Kiana Fitzgerald said Minaj’s way of gaining respect comes from “weaponizing her fan base.”

Megan has not responded to Minaj. And it doesn’t seem like she does; She has only been promoting her latest single and her upcoming album and tour since last Friday.

Despite the recent explosion in their feud, Megan and Nicki’s feud doesn’t come out of nowhere. This isn’t the first time either of the rappers have taken shots at each other. Years of sneaky comments in songs led to this eruptive moment, which most likely will not be the final battle of this saga. Here’s a timeline of your problem and where it has the potential to go.

Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj collaborate on ‘Hot Girl Summer’

The public learned about Megan and Minaj’s relationship while the Houston rapper’s star was on the rise. Megan joined the veteran rapper during an Instagram Live in July 2019. The exchange was warm on both ends. Megan told the Queens-born rapper that she loved her and that she had been listening to her music since 2008. Minaj responded with gratitude and congratulated her on her success.

On the livestream, Megan also talked about her upcoming song “Hot Girl Summer,” which only Ty Dolla $ign was on at the time. She hinted that she wanted Minaj on the song, but Minaj did not give an answer at the time. She later revealed on Twitter that she initially had no intentions of listening to the song, but fell in love with it when she heard it.

“But once I heard the song I fell in love. “I wrote it when I went to sleep,” she tweeted. “None of that was planned. She had no idea that Meg was live or that she would want to be live on 2gthr.”

They released “Hot Girl Summer” in August 2019. They also filmed a music video, in which they wore neon zebra-print outfits and matching red wigs. The song peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the video amassed more than 133 million views on YouTube.

Megan collaborates with Cardi B

As more female rappers’ careers began to take off, a feature with Cardi B or Minaj became something of a symbol of taking sides, as the two New York rappers had their own issues. It seemed like Megan was an exception when she collaborated with Cardi on “WAP” the year after “Hot Girl Summer.”

“WAP,” a provocative and controversial song, was a huge hit. Minaj continued to praise Megan and tell her Variety in August 2020 that she especially loved Meg’s drive to finish school.

“It’s so important for women to feel inspired to achieve goals outside of social media, where the focus is often on their bodies or who they’re dating at the moment,” Minaj said. “Women are more than just moms and we can continue to prove that if we focus on our goals, improve ourselves and be independent.”

A few months later, Megan said 107.5 WGCI Chicago that she didn’t let Minaj know she would be working with Cardi before recording “WAP” because she’s an artist and she shouldn’t have to. Megan said that her relationship with Minaj had not changed, even when she formed a new relationship with Cardi.

The subliminals begin

In early 2021, Minaj and Megan reportedly unfollowed each other on Instagram.

As rumors circulated about their fallout, fans speculated that the two rappers were dissing each other, although neither mentioned the other throughout the entire debate. Minaj criticized Megan when she released “Seeing Green” in May 2021 with the line “these bitches be thirsty, I can see why they’re alcoholics.” Some believed Megan responded in June 2021 on “Thot Shit.” She rapped, “I’m the big dude, but I ain’t the biggest/Hating bitch, tryna get attention/Man, ain’t nobody come to see you, Otis.”

Fans also suspected that Megan alleged that Minaj was addicted to pills on her 2022 album “Traumazine,” with the line “Feelin’ yourself, put them down Perkys” in the song “Gift & A Curse.”

Minaj added fuel to the fire in a September 2022 episode of her show “Queen Radio.” The 41-year-old rapper accused Megan of forcing her to drink alcohol and suggesting she could have an abortion while she was pregnant with her child in 2020.

“Imagine telling someone that you didn’t want to drink because, at that moment, you were possibly pregnant. Because you were actively trying to have a baby,” she said on the show. “Imagine if that person said, ‘Oh girl, you can go to the clinic.’”

Minaj continued, suggesting that Megan didn’t like her post or congratulate her when she posted about her pregnancy and only sent flowers after seeing Beyoncé sending her flowers. “I didn’t even let them in my damn house,” she said.

When fans alerted Megan to the allegations, she responded with one word on Twitter: “LIE.”

Minaj apparently dissed Megan again when she released “Red Ruby Da Sleeze” in March 2023. In it, she raps, “Seven hundred on them horses when we get ready to leave / But I haven’t fucked with horses since Christopher Reeves.” “Apparently, she also attacks Meg, who has a partnership with Frito-Lay, with the phrase “Dorito, bitches mad ’cause they eat nachos.”

Fans believe his line, “That .40 caliber makes them dance like a go-go,” was in reference to the incident in which the now-imprisoned Lanez shot Megan in the foot. 2020. Reports surfaced that Lanez said “Dance, bitch” as she shot at Megan’s feet.

On September 2023’s “Bongos,” Megan’s second collaboration with Cardi, fans believed Megan was talking about Minaj when she rapped “Hoes pop pills but I’m the one that they can’t take” and called her “stiff.” ”.

Minaj took a more apparent swipe at Megan on “FTCU,” from her album “Pink Friday 2,” which was released on Dec. 8, 2023. “Stay in your conservative lane, bitch,” referring, again, to the Canadian rapper . who is serving 10 years behind bars.

Megan drops ‘Hiss’

All hell broke loose on January 26, when the Houston rapper released “Hiss.”

Although she called several people without naming names, Megan’s feud with Minaj reached a boiling point.

“These bitches ain’t mad at Megan, these bitches mad at Megan’s Law,” the 27-year-old rapped, referencing Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty. Insignificant pleaded guilty to attempted rape in the first degree in 1995, and his name is on California’s list of registered sex offenders.

Less than 20 minutes after its midnight release, the “Everybody” rapper tweeted about her dissatisfaction with Megan for involving her family in the feud.

Minaj went on Instagram Live, unseen, and raged at Megan for about 20 minutes. She called her a “chunk-footed bitch” and claimed she “lied about her dead mother.” Minaj posted about the issue all weekend, encouraging her Barbz to get active. (This led to fans trolling several social media users who made negative comments about Minaj and revealed the location where Megan’s mother is buried.)

Minaj released her diss “Big Foot” on Sunday night, with impressive numbers but disappointing reviews.

What does this mean and what’s next

With fans taking revenge into their own hands and Minaj invoking Meg’s dead mother, this feud has gotten worse. The beef should be fun for fans to watch. It’s not what this is. Of course, this isn’t the first time rap has gotten ugly. Lyrically, both women can absolutely hold their own and don’t need to be held by the hand. But given rap’s history that has taken it too far, it’s safe to say enough is enough.

It’s not cute when bars perpetuate the same stereotypes that women in hip-hop are actively changing. And piling on a Black woman’s pain after her trauma has been exposed and capitalized on for the last three years is definitely not cute.

But to say that this dispute will end soon would be naive. In fact, it may get worse before it gets better as the two rappers go on their respective tours this summer.

Minaj, who claims to have five more diss tracks, will likely continue using social media to spread her side of the story, retweeting some fans while distancing herself from the Barbz who have become a liability. Megan’s response to “Big Foot” will likely be in her music, since she has otherwise remained silent about the consequences.

If Minaj’s beef with other female rappers (Lil Kim, Cardi, Remy Ma) indicates anything, it’s that she and Megan may be going back and forth for a while.
