“The Nightmare Before Christmas” creator Tim Burton and “Gone Girl” writer Gillian Flynn are tackling a “” remake for Warner Bros.

Burton is directing the upcoming film from a screenplay by Flynn. The sci-fi horror story follows a rich heiress who becomes a giant after an alien encounter and takes revenge on her unfaithful husband. It’s unclear how closely this remake will follow the original 1958 film, starring Allison Hayes, William Hudson and Yvette Vickers. The first film reportedly had a budget of just $88,000, so it’s reasonable to assume that the remake will have a slightly higher price tag.

The project reunites Burton with Warner Bros., where he is currently working on the sequel to his 1988 film “Beetlejuice.” The next movie about a pesky poltergeist, recently and appropriately titled “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” will hit theaters on September 6. His other directing credits include “Edward Scissorhands,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “Charlie and the Chocolate.” Factory” and “Planet of the Apes”.

Meanwhile, Flynn was recently hired to adapt her novel “Dark Places” for a limited series on HBO. The former “Entertainment Weekly” writer wrote the screenplay for David Fincher’s 2014 thriller “Gone Girl.” He also turned his 2006 book “Sharp Objects” into the HBO miniseries of the same name, starring Amy Adams.

In addition to directing, Burton produces “Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman” with Andrew Mittman and Tommy Harper. Kai Dolbashian served as executive producer. Burton is repped by WME. Flynn is represented by WME, Theresa Kang and Jackoway Austen.

News of the remake was first reported by Deadline.
