Toyota makes diesel engines comply with stipulated Indian regulations, allowing them to be sold in India once again.

Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO), a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation, created a special investigative committee to investigate possible irregularities in the certification of diesel engines. The committee’s findings concluded discrepancies in horsepower output for three diesel engine models.

TMC revealed that during certification testing, engine horsepower performance was measured using ECUs with different software than mass production, with the goal of delivering smoother and less varied results. A subsequent verification test performed on the mass-produced vehicles confirmed compliance with performance standards. Therefore, it was not necessary to suspend the use of the affected vehicles.

Toyota diesel engines affected by the issue included the 2.4-liter, 2.8-liter, and 3.3-liter V6. The 2.4-litre four-cylinder 2GD diesel engine powers the Toyota Innova Crysta, while the standard 2.8-litre four-cylinder 1GD diesel is seen in the Fortuner and Hilux models. The 3.3-liter F33A V6 diesel powers the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and Lexus LX 500d.
