Travis Kelce apparently got a promotion on Team Swift. During Taylor Swift‘s Friday Night Show in Sydney, AustraliaThe Kansas City Chiefs tight end was seen performing a move famously performed by the pop star’s father, Scott Swift, during the Eras Tour.
Numerous Swifties shared videos of their interactions with the NFL star inside Accor Stadium while appearing to hand out Taylor Swift-branded guitar picks. In one clip, she can be seen responding to a fan who calls her out from inside the VIP tent. After wonderfully catching a friendship bracelet thrown by a fan and offering a sweet wave in response, Travis returns the favor by tossing him a guitar pick. One social media user said Travis “went to Scott Swift’s school to throw guitar picks,” meaning the memory didn’t reach the fan. Another user joked that Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes “would have thrown it perfectly.” Another chimed in that Chiefs coach Andy Reid “said he’s not a good QB but he’s a good TE for a reason, wow.”
In a second video, Travis was seen mingling with fans outside the VIP tent during Taylor’s performance of “illicit affairs.” His friend Ross Travis points him in the direction of a group, and a smiling Travis happily accepts her friendship bracelet while reaching into his pocket for a guitar pick to share in exchange.
While it may seem like a small gesture, it is one that carries a lot of weight among members of the fandom. Social media is awash with cases of concertgoers hoping to receive coveted Scott items during Taylor’s shows. When the singer’s father passed the proverbial torch to Travis, one fan wrote, “Oh he’s SO serious.”
Eagle-eyed Swifties were on high alert for a Travis sighting on Friday and shared plenty of highlights from the fun show online. The 34-year-old athlete was all smiles as he was seen enjoying the concert wearing a blue printed t-shirt with both arms full of friendship bracelets. They accompanied him to a VIP tent. by Katy Perry, Rita prays, Taika Waititi, toni collette and Baz Luhrmann.
When Taylor closed her show with “Karma,” she once again the lyrics changed to shout, “Karma is the Chiefs guy coming right at me.” The pair were seen kissing as she walked off stage.
Travis landed in Sydney on Thursday and joined Taylor for some fun sydney zoo exploration.
A source told ETAt the time, “Taylor and Travis are very busy right now, but they are doing their best to prioritize each other and their relationship. Travis really likes Taylor and wanted to be there to support her during her shows in Australia. He’s grateful that she “She came to him during a very hectic time in her career and set out to do the same for her. They’re making a concerted effort to make things work.”
Friday marked the first of a four-night tour in Sydney. On Saturday, concertgoers made no mention of the Travis sighting on social media. Speaking of the Super Bowl, there were conversations at the time with fans speculating that Travis’ brother, Jason Kelcehad taken out a page of The Mom and Dad Swift Playbook while visiting Sin City. After seeing a young fan at a Las Vegas hotel, Jason allegedly went out of his way to give her a friendship bracelet.
Following her stay in Sydney, Taylor will take the Eras Tour to Singapore for a series of six sold-out shows from March 6-9.
As for whether Travis will accompany Taylor on the upcoming tour dates, the tight end’s father, Ed Kelce, recently suggested it was possible. Ed spoke to him The Sydney Morning Herald and shared details about a conversation he recently had with his son.
“I asked him, ‘Are you taking off for Sydney?’ And he seemed excited,” Ed shared, adding that Travis “said he’d really like to see Sydney and Singapore.”
Swift will take a month-long break from her touring life in April as she prepares to release her 11th studio album, The Department of Tortured Poetson April 19. He will then resume his tour on May 9 in Paris, France.
