Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs have the biggest game of the year on Sunday when they take on the Baltimore Ravens for a spot in Super Bowl LVIII. But the first question they asked him was about his girlfriend, Taylor Swift.
Kelce approached the podium during Friday’s news conference with reporters in Kansas City ahead of the team’s AFC Championship Game in Baltimore on Sunday. And one of the first questions had to do with all the attention he received last year and whether it has escalated off the field. Kelce, of course, is in the middle of a high-profile relationship with the world’s biggest pop star.
“I mean, obviously, yeah. I must be dumb to say I didn’t notice it went up,” the tight end said while wearing a flashy Nike Sherpa fleece jacket. “I think the Super Bowl helped that and obviously the way I live my life off the field definitely helps, but, yeah, I set this out for myself. And I enjoy having fun with all of that. The most important thing is to make sure that My focus is right here in this building.”
That question was followed by the challenges that come with that type of care.
“It’s just external noise, dealing with other people’s perspective on things. You hear the media all year long if we’re not having success, maybe they say I wasn’t focused or the team isn’t focused on certain things,” said. “If you’re in this building, you know exactly what’s going on. So you have to compartmentalize what you’re hearing and make sure you stay focused and give everyone in the building and on that team the right perception when you walk in that building.”
And inquiring minds wanted to know if the intense attention is something he and Swift have talked about.
“The only thing we’ve talked about is that as long as we’re happy, we can’t hear anything that’s outside noise,” Kelce shared. “That’s all that matters.”
That being said, outside noise is something Kelce really appreciates in a way.
“Yes. It’s a challenge to find new ways to be successful,” he said. “And I think that’s what this year has brought me: that obstacle and figuring out how I can bring out the best in myself, how I can figure out how to bring out the best in my teammates and at the same time be a great leader, bringing that energy, showing the young guys the kind of determined mindset you have to have week in and week out. And you know what, man? I love that challenge.”
The Chiefs are eager to defend their Super Bowl title, but the road to Las Vegas for Super Bowl LVIII goes through Baltimore. These playoffs are the first time the Chiefs have had to go on the road during the Patrick Mahomes era. The bosses… and fast! — went to Buffalo and sent Josh Allen and the Bills behind a balanced attack in all facets of the game. They’ll need that, and more, against presumptive NFL MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson and the Ravens’ stingy defense.
There’s no word yet on whether Swift will make an appearance Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium, but one thing’s for sure: They’ll make time amid their busy schedules.
“Taylor and Travis are doing very well,” he said. a source recently told ET. “They try to spend as much time together as possible. Travis also makes sure Taylor feels as comfortable as possible in her house. They have talked about her future as a couple and are excited about the idea.”
The source added: “Right now, Travis is focused on Valentine’s Day and wants to do something fun and special for Taylor.”
