Travis Kelce says he and Taylor Swift don’t pay attention to the “outside noise” surrounding their public relationship.
Kelce, 34, shared details during a press conference on friday before their big game on Sunday.
Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs will face the Baltimore Ravens in the 2024 AFC Championship Game. The tight end told reporters that he and Swift, also 34, have discussed how to navigate their relationship, which has attracted so much national attention.
“As long as we’re happy, we can’t hear anything that’s outside noise,” Kelce said. “That’s all that matters.”
In the same conversation, Kelce said he “would be foolish” not to acknowledge how his star has risen in the past year. In addition to his romance with Swift, Kelce won Super Bowl LVII with the Kansas City Chiefs against his brother Jason Kelce’s team, the Philadelphia Eagles.
“I think the Super Bowl helped with that and obviously the way I live my life off the field definitely helps,” Kelce said. “I proposed this myself and I enjoy having fun with it all.”
Kelce went on to tell reporters that he was focused on Sunday’s game despite potential distractions.
“The most important thing is to make sure my focus is here in this building,” he said.
When asked what challenges came with the heightened attention, Kelce said sometimes people question his commitment to the game.
“It’s just external noise. Dealing with other people’s perspective on things. You hear the media all year long, if we’re not having success, maybe they’ll say I wasn’t focused or the team isn’t focused on certain things. ” Kelce said. “If you’re in the building, you know exactly what’s going on.”
Kelce added that he has learned to “compartmentalize” what he hears and tries to focus.
Rumors about the couple’s romance surfaced last summer and fall, before Swift confirmed the relationship in a December 2023 interview with time magazine. The couple started dating around July 2023.
“When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we introduce ourselves to each other, there are other people there and we don’t care,” Swift told the outlet. “The opposite of that is that you have to go to extreme lengths to make sure no one knows you’re dating someone. And we’re just proud of each other.”
