Australian legend Shane Watson recently dropped out of the race to become the next head coach of the Pakistan men’s team despite the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) reportedly meeting his salary demands.

Apart from Watson, West Indies legend Daren Sammy was also among the candidates PCB was considering for the job, but the two-time world cup-winning captain also opted out as he already has a contract with the West Indies Board.

“Watson initially showed interest and maintained certain financial and other conditions to accept the offer,” a source said.

PCB agreed to Watson’s financial demands, but the Australian was reportedly unhappy with the details of the salary package being leaked to the Pakistani media.

The PCB has reportedly agreed to an annual remuneration of $2 million for Watson.

“But after the board more or less agreed to Watson’s financial demands, the Australian was unhappy that details of the proposed package were leaked to Pakistani media and social media,” the source said.

Watson later turned down the offer citing previous commitments as a commentator in the IPL and also the US premier league, as well as wanting to dedicate more time to his young family in Sydney.

PCB will now seek a provisional agreement for the national team to oversee the training camp in Kakul from March 25 to April 8 ahead of the five-match T20 series at home against New Zealand starting April 14 in Lahore and Rawalpindi.

“A local coaching team as an interim arrangement for the New Zealand camp and series is the only option available to the PCB now and president Mohsin Naqvi will have to make a call after the PSL final on March 18,” the team said. fountain.

Naqvi has made it clear that he is interested in hiring foreign coaches for the national team in the long term, covering the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the United States and the Champions Trophy early next year in Pakistan.
