He US men’s national soccer team is playing for a third straight Concacaf Nations League title when it faces rival Mexico on Sunday night.
The USMNT has won both editions of the Concacaf Nations League in 2021 and 2023.
America needed almost a miracle to get to this point. After trailing 1-0 for much of the match, an own goal in stoppage time pushed Thursday’s semifinal against Jamaica into overtime, which is when the USMNT pulled away for a 3-1 victory. In the other semifinal, Mexico had little trouble dispatching Panama and reaching a 3-0 victory.
USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter hopes to take advantage of these last two games of the Concacaf Nations League like a trampoline for this summer’s Copa América, which will take place in the US from June 20 to July 14. The USMNT has been included in a group with Bolivia, Panama and Uruguay for that competition. Mexico, for its part, is in a group with Ecuador, Jamaica and Venezuela.
