Nottingham Forest have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign US international Gio Reyna on loan until the end of the season.

Reyna will fly to Nottingham before the move is completed, while the option of purchasing a figure for the attacking midfielder is still being discussed.

The Athletic reported earlier this month that Forest were in talks with the Bundesliga side to sign Reyna on a temporary contract.

Reyna’s current contract with Dortmund runs until June 2025 and the versatile striker signed with super agent Jorge Mendes in December, shortly before the January transfer window opened.

Reyna has only started twice for the German club this season, making 11 more appearances as a substitute.

The 21-year-old missed the first month of the season through injury and has appeared just 13 times in all competitions since his return in September.

He returned to the USMNT setup during the October international break following a series of injuries and a falling out with head coach Gregg Berhalter. The United States has two major tournaments on the horizon in the next three years, with the 2024 Copa América taking place this summer before the United States co-hosts the 2026 World Cup.

Reyna moved to Dortmund’s academy from New York City in 2019 and broke into the senior team the following year. He was part of the Dortmund team that won the 2020-21 DFB-Pokal.
