Vikrant Massey spoke about how his parents supported his brother’s decision to convert to Islam when he was just 17 years old.
Actor Vikrant Massey, who has enjoyed the success of his latest release, 12th Fail, has opened up about his religiously diverse family. Vikrant spoke about how his parents supported his brother’s decision to convert to Islam when he was just 17 years old.
Vikrant said his father, Jolly Massey, is a “church-going Christian” and his mother, Meena Massey, is a “Sikhni”. “My brother’s name is Moeen, my name is Vikrant. You might wonder why the name Moeen? He converted to Islam, my family allowed him to change religion. They said, ‘Beta (Son), if you find satisfaction in this, then go ahead.’ He converted when he was 17, it’s a big step. My mother is Sikhni, my father is Christian and he goes to church twice a week. From a very young age, I have seen a lot of arguments related to religion and spirituality,” Vikrant said in an interview with Unfiltered by Samdish.
Vikrant then recalled how his relatives questioned his father about his brother’s decision. “My distant relatives asked my father how he could ‘allow’ that (my brother’s conversion). He said that was none of their business. “He is my son, he only answers to me and he has all the rights to choose what he wants.” After seeing this, I began my own search, wondering what exactly religion is. It is the work of man.”
Vikrant is the son of Jolly Massey and Meena Massey. He married actress Sheetal Thakur in 2022. The duo welcomed their first child together recently. They became parents to a baby boy on February 7. The duo made the announcement along with a photo of a beautiful letter. The note on the image said: “02.07.2024. Because we have become one. We are filled with joy and love as we announce the arrival of our son. I love Sheetal and Vikrant.”
