PHILADELPHIA, New York (WWNY) – People in the Indian River school district will decide Thursday on a new mascot.
Indian River teams will no longer be called “Warriors.” Voters will choose between “Wolves” and “Rapids.”
The change comes because of a state Education Department mandate that prevents schools from using Native American names or imagery for their mascots. The mandate takes effect in June 2025.
Voting will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the high school library. You’ll need identification or other proof of residency to vote.
