What to know
The Nuggets have enjoyed a four-game homestand, but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face the Miami Heat at 7:30 pm ET on Wednesday at the Kaseya Center. The Heat suffered a loss in their last game and will look to turn around the Nuggets, who are coming off a victory.
Last Monday, although it was not a dominant performance, Denver beat the Raptors 125-119. The victory came thanks to a strong advance starting at 2:59 of the second quarter, when the Nuggets faced a 64-42 deficit.
Nikola Jokic continued his habit of posting crazy stats, posting a triple-double with 35 points, 17 rebounds and 12 assists. He’s been hot recently, having scored 25 or more points the last five times he’s played. The team also received help courtesy of Jamal Murray, who had a double-double with 26 points and 12 assists.
The Heat came into Sunday’s matchup with a big seeding advantage, but given the outcome that advantage could have gone to their heads. They fell just short of Washington by a score of 110-108. The Heat just can’t catch a break and have already suffered three losses in a row.
The Heat had a difficult time working together and finished the game with only 20 assists. They were demolished by their opponents in that department as the Wizards racked up 35 assists.
Denver has been on a roll lately: they’ve won nine of their last ten games, a huge jump from their 45-20 record this season. As for Miami, its loss dropped its record to 35-29.
In this contest, the number of possessions is likely to be a major factor: the Nuggets have not turned the ball over easily this season, having averaged just 11.8 turnovers per game (they rank fifth in turnovers per game in general). However, it’s not like the Heat are struggling in that department, as they have averaged just 12.1 turnovers per game. Given these competing strengths, it will be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
The Nuggets didn’t have much breathing room in their game against the Heat in their previous matchup two weeks ago, but still managed a 103-97 victory. The rematch could be a little more difficult for the Nuggets since this time the team will not have the home field advantage. We’ll see if the change of venue makes a difference.
