At ET NOW Global Business Summit 2024, Naman “Mortal” Mathur, Co-Founder and CMO of S8UL eSports, shared his experience as a full-time gamer and content creator. Mathur, affectionately known as S8UL Mortal, spoke about when he went viral and everything he did to achieve his first viral moment.
New Delhi: At ET NOW Global Business Summit 2024, Naman “Mortal” Mathur, Co-Founder and CMO of S8UL eSports, shared his experience as a full-time gamer and content creator. Mathur, affectionately known as S8UL Mortal, spoke about the moment he went viral and everything he did to achieve his first viral moment.
Q1: How was your experience at ET NOW Global Business Summit 2024?
Answer: This was my first experience with this type of audience. Normally I have been with younger audiences and students.
Q2: Does the creation of content and gaming a full time career and can people opt for it as a full time career?
Answer: I experienced the full circle of being a gamer. I started with content creation and then moved into esports along with content creation. But then I realized the two wouldn’t work together, so I went back to content creation, but now I own an eSports team. Now I’m focusing on content and my team is focusing on esports. So yeah, I’m making a career out of this and letting others make a career out of it too.
Q3: How does revenue and revenue generation work in gaming and content creation?
There are many sources of income. For me specifically, I’m a YouTuber and live streamer. There is transactional and advertising revenue from YouTube. Apart from this, I work with brands, both endemic and non-endemic. We also have price groups, where if our team performs well and gets a podium, we will get a good share of the prize.
Q4: Did your family initially support you in doing this?
Answer: Not until I went viral and received my first paycheck. The moment came in November of last year, when I got my first paycheck and they said, ‘Let’s give it a year’s time.’
Q5: What do you want to tell your fans?
Answer: To my fans, you need to keep your investigative game strong, because the way it started for me, I did the right thing at the right time. I saw a lot of Indian audience in the comments of foreign YouTubers and then decided why don’t I do the same. And that’s when I went viral. “So, I think you should hope to do the right thing at the right time.”
