BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Wednesday made it clear that India’s centrally contracted players will have to compulsorily play in domestic red-ball tournaments and the board will not tolerate any excuse.

“They have already been informed over the phone and I am also going to write letters saying that if their chairman of selectors, their coach and their captain ask for it, then they will have to play red-ball cricket,” Shah was quoted as saying. by the PTI.

Shah, however, said that the participation of players in these domestic tournaments will be done in accordance with the guidelines of the national cricket academy.

“Whatever advice we get from the NCA (for example, let’s say someone’s body is not able to handle both white-ball and red-ball cricket), we don’t want to impose anything on that. (Applies to) who is fit and young; We will not tolerate any more tantrums. This message is for all centrally contracted players,” Shah said.

“Everyone will have to play, otherwise, the president of the selection committee has given me his suggestions and I am going to give him free rein so he can make his own decisions freely,” he added.

“If someone asks for a personal permit in 15 years, they have the right to request it. Virat is not that kind of player who would ask for permission without any reason. We must back and trust our players,” he said while talking about Virat Kohli, who pulled out of the ongoing series against England due to personal reasons.

But the BCCI secretary did not give any details whether Kohli, like Rohit Sharma, who was confirmed as the T20 captain for the upcoming World Cup, would be available for the showpiece event. “We will talk about Virat later,” Shah said.
