Two days before a major documentary chronicling the deterioration of Wendy Williams’ mental state premiered on Lifetime, the court-appointed caregiver for the embattled former talk show host reportedly filed a lawsuit against Lifetime’s parent company, A+ E Networks.

Sabrina Morrissey filed the sealed suit for injunctive relief Thursday in New York Supreme Court. The lawsuit reportedly says that Morrissey, whose identity as the person appointed by the court in 2022 to care for Williams had been unknown publicly and to Williams’ family, is “acting in the capacity of her temporary guardian.”

The complaint, which also reportedly seeks a temporary restraining order, names A+E Networks, Lifetime’s parent company, and Entertainment One Reality Productions, which produced the 4.5-hour documentary that will air over two nights, next Saturday and Sunday.

Morrissey’s lawsuit reportedly seeks injunctive relief to stop distribution of the film. Reports indicate that on Friday, A+E Networks filed an appeal. The judge ordered the temporary sealing of documents in the case, but set a hearing date for next week on the matter. TMZ reports.

Filmed between August 2022 and April, the two-part film Where is Wendy Williams? Narrates the former shock athlete who became a daytime sensation as her health and mental state worsen. Williams’ representatives revealed Thursday that she had been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia; Williams also has the autoimmune disorder Graves’ disease and lymphedema, which is the buildup of fluid in the body’s soft tissues; Along with her addiction to alcohol, these ailments are documented in the Lifetime movie.

Williams is executive producer of the raw documentary, originally conceived as a behind-the-scenes look at the relaunch of her career through a new podcast. The production team began to follow the former radio host and presenter of The Wendy Williams Show at the end of August 2022, but given his physical and mental state, the focus was on his fight against addiction and autoimmune disorders.
