West Indies fast bowler Shamar Joseph’s match-winning spell against Australia at the Gabba on Sunday helped him secure a PSL deal, with Peshawar Zalmi signing him up. He is expected to join the franchise from the beginning and remain with them throughout the tournament.

While Joseph was announced by Zalmi as a partial replacement for England fast bowler Gus Atkinson, ESPNcricinfo understands that he will remain with Zalmi throughout the tournament, even after Atkinson joins. Atkinson is currently with the England Test team in India for the five-match series that runs until March 11, ensuring his unavailability for all but playoff matches.

The announcement to sign Joseph did not come at the replacement and supplemental draft, which took place today. At that time, Zalmi announced that they had replaced Afghan Noor Ahmed, who was also unavailable, with Atkinson for the entire tournament. But Atkinson’s current commitment to the Indian national team would have made this impossible, and Zalmi later announced on social media that Joseph would replace him.

Haider Ali (Islamabad United), Johnson Charles (Multan Sultans) and Bhanuka Rajapaksa (Lahore Qalandars) were among the other players brought in by PSL teams in the season nine supplementary and replacement draft. The draft, organized to replace several players who were unavailable due to scheduling conflicts or injuries, was conducted via conference call, according to a statement issued by the PCB.

Rashid Khan, who withdrew from this year’s PSL while managing his return from a back injury, was not replaced and Qalandars opted to reserve his selection. This allows the franchise to potentially retain Rashid’s services, with Qalandars retaining him in the silver category on the understanding that he could be retained until 2025. But Dan Lawrence, partially unavailable to the franchise, has also not been replaced, with Qalandars reserving your choice. Islamabad also did not replace Tom Curran, who was ruled out of the league with a knee injury.

Karachi Kings replaced the partially unavailable Kieron Pollard with left-arm spinner Zahid Mahmood, while opener Bismillah Khan replaces Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga for Quetta Gladiators. Meanwhile, the Sultans also brought in all-rounder Mohammad Shahzad as a complementary pick, while Islamabad brought in West Indies left-arm fast bowler Obed McCoy.

The PSL begins on February 17 at the Gaddafi Stadium and will run until March 18, with the final at the National Stadium in Karachi. Qalandars are the defending champions, having won the title in each of the previous two editions.
