Celebrity couple Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma on Tuesday announced that they have been blessed with a baby boy – Akaay. Kohli and Anushka revealed that the baby was born on February 15. “With abundant happiness and our hearts full of love, we are happy to inform you all that on February 15, we welcomed our baby’s little brother, Akaay and Vamika, into this world. We seek your blessings and good wishes in this beautiful moment of our lives. We request that you respect our privacy at this time. Love and gratitude. Virat and Anushka,” the couple wrote in a social media post.
After the announcement, there has been a lot of intrigue surrounding the unique and special name: Akaay. It is derived from the Hindi word “kaya”, which means “body”. Akaay means someone who is more than his physical body. In Turkish, the word “Akaay” means “bright moon.”
The couple are yet to confirm what origin of the word they thought of before naming the child.
The baby has already become very popular on social media. Virat Kohli’s Instagram post garnered over five million likes in just over n hours.
Following the announcement of the news, fans and members of the film industry and cricket world flooded the comments section with well wishes. Actor Ranveer Singh posted a series of ‘evil eye’ and heart emojis in the comments section. “God bless you,” wrote actor Rakul Preet Singh.
IPL teams also reacted. “More for King’s Pride! Congratulations! @imVkohli @AnushkaSharma,” wrote Chennai Super Kings.

Virat and Anushka got married on December 11, 2017 in Italy. The duo was blessed with Vamika on January 11, 2021. The couple remained silent about their second pregnancy.
However, recently former South Africa captain AB de Villiers revealed on his official YouTube channel that Kohli and Anushka were expecting their second child.
The former Proteas captain apologized to Kohli and said he made a “blunder” in his previous video.
“My friend Virat Kohli is still not available. I ask everyone to give him the privacy he deserves. Family comes first. No one knows exactly what is going on. I ask everyone to respect that. I made a mistake in my previous show and I apologize to the Kohli family for that,” ABD said on his YouTube channel.
Kohli earlier opted out of India’s ongoing five-match series against England, citing personal reasons.
